The Wave Cafe

The Wave Café located on the main road to Playa Grande, is now open from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Cara is the wonderful pastry chef so stop by to enjoy a delicious treat where you can choose from donuts, cinnamon rolls, sandwiches, coffee and smoothies.

For fresh baked bread please order the previous day! We also bake for parties and events.

Join us for dinner at Hotel Bula Bula’s own restaurant The Great Waltini’s. Enjoy a casual fine dining experience in the open air restaurant or choose to sit under the stars on our patio and enjoy your meal with a little moonlight. Either way, your palate will be treated to a sumptuous meal. Our chef creates a “fusion of the Americas” joining California fresh, Gulf coast Cajun and New England sea food with Latin American variety and Costa Rican specialties. Dinner is served from 5:30pm to 9:00pm during the week and until 9:30pm on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is closed on Monday Evenings for Dinner Only.

The Great Waltini's Bar

The restaurant also has a fully Stocked bar that is made up of one solid sixteen foot piece of Guanacaste wood. You’ll be amazed at the beauty of the natural Costa Rican hardwood. Costa Rica has more than 3,000 species of hardwoods alone, compared to about 300 in all of North America.

While you’re admiring the bar, join us for one of Hotel Bula Bula’s famous cocktails including " The Waltini" Our Signature Martini, tropical rum drinks blended with fresh fruit, mouthwatering margaritas or a savory Siberian made with ice cream and chocolate, a must have! While enjoying your drink don’t forget to say “Hola” to Bert our Yellow Naped Amazon who is the resident Bula Bula Mascot. You are welcome to enjoy bar service all day either lounging in a hammock or sitting poolside. The bar officially closes at 12:00am but will happily be kept open until your thirst is quenched!

You will enjoy the delicious seafood and international dishes of our restaurant/bar. The indoor dining room is surrounded by ocean front, open-air and roofed decks. We serve food all day from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

We serve everything from hamburgers and french fries to filet mignon and jumbo shrimp cocktails.

For breakfast you can have anything from a full American-style breakfast to light exotic fruit smoothies or tropical fruit plates.

For lunch and dinner, our economy plates which are called "casados" (marriages), include fresh local fish (mahi mahi), sirloin, chicken, or rice with heart of palm for vegetarians. Casado dishes come with a small salad, rice and beans.

We serve fresh fish prepared in a variety of ways (Pescado Tropical is a favorite) as well as daily specials, including ceviche.

Local specialties include black bean soup, rice with heart of palm, and coconut flan for desert. Our fresh, homebaked apple pie rivals anything grandma could make.

We use only fresh and export quality ingredients.

Our bar boasts a large tropical drink menu, and our Playa Grande Margaritas--made with fresh, homegrown limes plucked from the backyard--are a must!!
